Meet Head Coach Steve Brown

Coach Steve Brown enters his fourth season as the head baseball coach at Henry Ford Community College (HFCC), and his 30th season coaching overall. With the absence of baseball at HFCC for several years, Coach Brown has rebuilt the team, the culture and the entire baseball program during his short tenure. Throughout his career, Coach Brown has consistently brought positive changes to the environment of the baseball programs he has worked with.

Coach Brown grew up in Detroit, MI where he graduated from Detroit St. Martin DePorres High School. He was the MVP on the Varsity baseball team his junior and senior year while also leading his team to their first state football championship. He attended Wiley College in Marshall, TX where he continued his baseball career as a 4-year starter in the outfield position. He was a leader on his Wildcat team that captured the Red River Conference title all four seasons. He batted .390 as a freshman and was captain and team MVP in his senior year.

After his graduation from Wiley College, Coach Brown returned to DePorres as Head Varsity Baseball coach for 9 seasons, and also served as Dean of Students and Athletic Director. Steve then moved into a Production Supervisor role for Daimler Chrysler. .

While working in the private sector, Coach Brown continued his baseball coaching career. Steve played as a youth for the Detroit Eagles Travel Baseball Organization, and then coached within the organization as an adult. He led his 13U team to an American Amateur Baseball Congress (AABC) World Series Championship. Coach Brown then took over the 15U Detroit RBI (Reviving Baseball in the Inner City) All Star team sponsored by Major League Baseball. He led this squad of young men to 3 straight RBI Junior World Series Championships.

Coach Brown holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Management from Wiley College and is currently a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). Coach Brown lives his passion every day. “Baseball ends for everyone at some point. My goal over the course of each season and for seasons to come is to create an environment where my players will grow on the field, in the classroom and in life. I want each of my players to be prepared for life when they leave HFCC and their baseball career is over.”
