Women's Volleyball
The Women’s Volleyball team was formed in the fall of 1975 and conference championships in 1983, 1994, 1996 and 1999. The Hawks volleyball team were Regional Champions in 1994. Carla Gray was named a Distinguished Academic All-American in 2001. The Head coach is Scott Gray, and Gary Gray is Assistant Coach.
The Hawks play on the main campus in the fall. The season runs from September 3 – November 7. Admission is free to women’s volleyball games.
Coach Gipson brings 21 years of coaching and program management experience at the high school, AAU and community college level to HFCC. Currently, Coach Gipson leads the Detroit Volleyball Club, focusing on the development and training of players in the U-18 division.
Previously, Coach Gipson was Head Volleyball Coach at Wayne County Community College District. During his tenure, he compiled an overall record of 89-159 teams with 21 player’s receiving athletic scholarships to four-year institutions. Coach Gipson’s teams had a 60 percent graduation rate and he was honored as Michigan Community College Athletic Association Eastern Conference Coach of the Year.
Coach Gipson has also had successful teams at various Detroit-area high schools, including Southfield Lathrup, Oak Park and St. Martin DePorres. Gipson’s Strengths include individual player skills-building, creative scheduling, recruiting and student-athlete academic achievement.
